Haddock have a dark lateral line running along their white side, which is the opposite to pollock that have a white line running along their dark side. The most distinguishing mark of the haddock is a dark blotch above the pectoral fin which is often described as a thumb print

They are mainly bottom feeders but are also found mid water.
