WHITING

Bait – mackerel, squid, crab and prawn

Method – mackerel feathers tipped with a bit of bait

Good places to catch whiting in Cornwall are Falmouth, the headlands in the Padstow area, Port Isaac, Perranporth, Penzance, Porthleven

Whiting have golden olive green tops with the belly and sides a silvery pale bluish white. The mouth is large for the head.

Length is 20-150cm

Family – Gadidae

Whiting swim in large shoals and are mid to bottom feeders. They can be found off beaches.
