Porthleven
Porthleven is a working fishing port on the south coast.
The historic outer harbour was completed in 1825 and then an inner harbour was added in 1858. This is due to the fact that Porthleven is exposed to severe weather conditions as it faces the prevailing wind. The construction of the inner harbour ensured that the harbour was fully protective.
Commercial fishing boats still work from Porthleven and the harbour forms the heart of the community with the village being built around it.
Loe Bar
Loe Bar is situated between Porthleven and Gunwalloe and separates the beach and the adjacent natural freshwater lake (Loe Pool).
Sea Fishing in Porthleven area
From this area expect to catch bass, whiting, pollack, mackerel and dogfish. Take great care when fishing from the beach at Loe Bar as it is a steep shelving beach and has unfortunately claimed many lives.
