How do I use these wood chips for smoking?

Add a small handful to your smoker box, BBQ or smoking oven, then aim for thin blue smoke rather than thick white smoke. Match milder woods to fish and poultry, and stronger woods to red meat. The included tasting notes suggest a pairing for each wood.

Which wood chips are best for smoking fish?

Milder woods such as alder, apple and beech are popular for fish and seafood because they add gentle smoke without overpowering delicate flavour. Alder in particular is a traditional choice for salmon and mackerel.

How many smokes will each packet give me?

Each packet contains roughly 30g to 50g of chips, which is generally enough for around four smokes. The exact number depends on the wood, your smoker and how long you smoke for.

Do I need to soak the wood chips before smoking?

It depends on your method and equipment. A short soak can slow burning in some smoker boxes, while dry chips suit quick hot smoking. Try both and keep notes on what works best with your setup.

Is this sampler pack suitable for beginners?

Yes. Small quantities and tasting notes make it an ideal first step into home smoking, letting you learn which woods you like before buying larger tubs.

Can I use these chips on a normal BBQ?

Yes. The chips work on most BBQs, smoker boxes, stovetop smokers and smoking ovens. On a BBQ, a smoker box or foil pouch helps the chips smoulder rather than burn.

Does the wood chip sampler pack make a good gift?

It makes a thoughtful gift for anyone interested in BBQ or home smoking, as it lets them explore twelve flavours without spending heavily on full tubs. Gift wrapping can be added separately at checkout.
