What is included in this smoker box set?

A KitchenCraft stainless steel smoker box (22.5cm x 9cm x 4cm) and two coarse wood chip packs, oak and cherry. You add a barbecue and the food. It is a simple, complete starting point for BBQ smoking.

How do I use the smoker box?

Add a handful of chips, heat the box on the barbecue until they smoulder, then cook your food with the lid down so the smoke surrounds it. Refill with chips for longer cooks.

Does it work on a gas barbecue?

Yes. The stainless steel box suits both gas and charcoal. On gas, place it over a burner until the chips smoulder; on charcoal, set it on or near the coals.

What woods are included?

Oak and cherry. Oak gives a balanced, classic smoke that suits most foods, while cherry is milder and slightly sweet, which works well with poultry and fish.

What can I smoke with it?

Fish, chicken, duck, sausages, mussels and more. Match the milder cherry to delicate foods and use oak when you want a more classic, rounded smoke.

How many smokes will I get?

Each of the two wood packs holds enough coarse chips for roughly two smokes, giving you about four smokes before you need to buy more chips.

Do I need to soak the chips?

Soaking is optional. A short soak slows burning in some boxes, while dry chips suit quick smoking. Either way, aim for thin, steady smoke rather than flames.

Is this a good first smoking gift?

Yes. Because it includes both the box and starter woods at a modest price, it is an easy, low-risk gift for someone curious about BBQ smoking.

Good kit. Real people.
