GOLDEN GREY MULLET

Bait – sweetcorn, small pieces of prawn, bread
Method – small hook and float
Good places to catch thick lipped grey mullet in Cornwall are the Hayle estuary, Helford river, Falmouth, Flushing and Charlestown
Very similar to the thick lipped grey mullet with the addition of golden patches on their cheeks – i.e small flattened head with small mouth. Thick lips and small eyes. Two dorsal fins with spines. The top is greenish and turns to silver grey at the sides with a white belly.
Length is 40-50cm

Latin Name – liza aurata
Family – Mugilidae
Grey mullet are found in estuaries and harbours and less likely at sea as they prefer shallow waters.
